What is the definition of pharmacogenomics (PGx)?

 

Pharmacogenomics refers to the study of how an individual's genetic makeup influences their response to drugs.

Who is an ideal candidate for Pharmacogenomic testing?

  • Patients who are taking multiple medications, typically five or more, to manage one or more chronic conditions.

  • Patients who may be experiencing undesirable side effects from medications and are seeking relief, or those who have previously experienced significant drug reactions.

  • Patients frustrated after multiple trials of ineffective medications.

  • Those who have encountered medication treatment failures.

What is required to complete the PGx test?

The process of conducting a PGx test is simple. Once the test is ordered, a test kit will be sent directly to you. Usually, saliva collection or a cheek swab is all that is needed. The kit includes detailed instructions and Dr. Pilate can also assist with collection of sample. Once you have completed the test, you can return the sample using the provided return label, following the instructions enclosed.

When can I expect a response to my medication inquiries?

Dr. Pilate will respond to patients and clients within 48 hours of initial contact.
